Are you asking yourself whether you should invest in PPC or SEO? You are asking the wrong question. PPC and SEO should be part of your total web presence strategy.
Some things to think about while planning your Web Presence Strategy:
- PPC – Pay Per Click: Great Advertising Model because you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. The Key to PPC is not only that you Bid correctly on the Keywords, but that you provide an optimal experience for the user that clicks on your ad.
- SEO – Search Engine Optimization: Making sure your Website is coded correctly that the search engines put you higher in the “Organic Results”. You can hire a firm that can make best educated guesses about what the Search Engines want to see, to give you a higher page rank. The downside to this is that it takes time. Also, the search engines are constantly changing how they determine what is important. This need to be part of your strategy.
- Content Marketing: CONTENT is KING!! Quality content is now more than ever an important part of a web presence strategy. Specifically, Google has told the world that fresh content goes into your page rank and this content should also be in many places like facebook and twitter.
- Reputation Management: Reviews – Do you have any? Your reputation online could be part of a search engine algorithm – The search engines want their searchers to have a great experience with their Search Engine – Why would they want to send their users to a business that does not have a good reputation?
- Active Social Media Profiles: It is also very important to be actively using your social media profiles. Active profiles are more likely to show up in search engine results for your brand. And, now that search engines like Google and Bing are using your social likes, shares, and social mentions into determining your page rank, keeping a constant social media campaign is critical. Not to mention, that this is a great way to interact with your customers.
- Mobile: Is your website mobile friendly? More and more traffic to your website will be from smart phones and the explosion of sales from tablets. It comes back to that user experience, is the user able to get the information they need from your mobile site?

Are you thinking about Marketing Online? Curious about where to start?
You are not alone. I hear this every day when I meet with business owners. With facebook, Google +, twitter, blog sites, SEO – there are so many shiny objects, but where should a local business start first? Typically, you should start with Search Engine Marketing (SEM). Why do I say typically? Because, not all business verticals will produce results doing a search campaign, but 70% of them will.
Factors that produce results with SEM:
1) High Search Volume.
2) Medium to High Transaction Value.
3) High Life-Time Customer Value.
4) Finding the Right Budget to spend.
Don’t just take my word for it, although I have done hundreds of campaigns – Check out this article by Greg Sterling – “Search Dominates Other Sources for Local Information – Study”.
The major point to this article – “59% of survey respondents said that search engines were the first place they go when researching local business.”
So, why SEM? Because it is INSTANT. I call it pay to play and once you pay you are basically, right up there in the results. Stop paying – You’re not there anymore.
1) Choose your service area.
2) Build your keyword list.
3) Determine the right budget for the amount of search.
And you are RIGHT THERE in the Results:
